National Inter-School A Division Boys Floorball Championship: Tampines Sports Complex, Wednesday, July 16, 2008 – It was a highly anticipated game in which last season’s first runner-up Raffles Junior College (RJC) and second runner-up Victoria Junior College (VJC) battled to reign at the top of the league table. Ultimately, both teams, equally matched in skills and stamina were held to a deserving draw of two-all.
In the first period, energy was on a all-time high for both teams as they were going all out to secure a win. Nonetheless, despite the intense game, both goalkeepers managed to keep their wits and made a couple of good saves, keeping the score clean for both sides. Credit must also be given to RJC Jeremy Tan (#13) who played a mean game, thwarting any VJC’s players that came near the goal. The first period ended in stalemate.
After a hard fought first period, the second period started out just as furious. Nonetheless, RJC Anandraj (#15) managed to find an opening to score as a quick pass by his team mate allowed him to slot in the goal. The VJC goalkeeper who had slided to the wrong side in a bid to save the ball could only watch on helplessly as the ball went in. It was only a short-lived joy for RJC as less than two minutes later, VJC Mohammad Fauzan (#17) sent in a hard and fast ball into the net that caught the RJC goalkeeper unaware and he remained stationary when the ball flew in.
The tense atmosphere continued on to the third period, with both teams looking for a goal to seal off the match. In a game where both teams were evenly matched, it all boiled down to luck in the end. VJC had their stroke of luck when VJC Jonathon Heng (#13) managed to fling in the shot in the 04:48 min. VJC must have thought that lady luck was shining down on them as with less than five minutes to go, one referee called for a penalty for VJC after witnessing a scuffle in the penalty box. However, after further consultation with the other referee, the penalty was changed into a free-hit instead. RJC must really thank their lucky stars as it was the referees’ decision that changed their fate. After successfully foiling the free-hit, RJC players snatched the ball and pushed forward quickly towards the VJC’s net with RJC Terence Ang (#8) sucessfully knocking in the last goal of the game in the 11:05 min, making it 2-all. With this draw, RJC successfully remained at the top of the table with a goal advantage over VJC.
Both teams’ passion for floorball could be felt as despite the countless falls on the slippery floor, the players simply just pluck themselves up and went on with the game, never complaining. It was an exhilarating match with both teams never backing down and giving their all – making both teams deserving winners.
Semi-finals will be held next Monday, 21st July at Tampines Sports Hall:
Meridian Junior College will meet Victoria Junior College at 1400 and
Raffles Junior College will meet Yishun Junior College at 1500

hi viewer, thanks for your comment. And I will answer your question about the reports on girls. There are some reports on girls but unfortunately ever since the matches have been moved to TSH, it was impossible for some writers and photographers to travel down to TSH as it will clash with their schedule.
The girls games also clash with zhijia and my schedule which is the reason why we have only been covering the boys. I would love to cover the girls too. No worries, we would be covering the girls finals. Though if you have any report you would like to write about the girls’ matches, send it to us and we will post it up.
Thank you again. =)
i don’t really understand why everyone is making a big fuss. a referee’s decision would always be final and the best that you can do is to respect it and move on. it’s a lesson learnt for everyone…
it was just the same case between MJC vs RJC (girls match) when the rj coach managed to talk to the referee to call off the penalty that was initially given to MJC. but i believe nobody was complaining about that. where’s the sportsmanship if you need to look at all these details (and harp on it) which would happen in any match for any sport.
even if it was a controversial decision or something, i believe there is no need for anyone to look at the article and accuse the writer of being bias or anyting because she’s only writing a report and whoever said we need all the nitty-gritty details (like rj coach talking to the ref?!? maybe we should all try be a referee and understand how it actually feels like. to err is only human. i hope we would all not leave “hate-tags” (in the near future) or anything and embrace the sport (or matches and decisions and etc) as it is.
to redsports/les (editor)
why are there only reviews of the guys matches and none for the girls?
Alright, I think before anyone says something he or she will regret, we’ll just move on from this topic. Everyone is welcome on this site and if you disagree with what’s written, feel free to say so. Because if we disagree with what you say, we’ll say so too. There is no need to chase anyone away from this site.
We have a standing invitation on this site. If you send it, we post it. So if you have a view of the game you witnessed, you’re welcome to send in your stories and we’ll post it.
Maybe you would like to point out parts in my article that was subjective? I can learn from your guidance then. Oh, I am surprised you find out only now that articles do leave out pretty “significant details”. There are so many “significant details” that I don’t know where to start. May I know how was the RJC coach conversing with the referees a significant detail? It was not the reason why RJC drew with VJC in the end. I report how the match went.
Like you said, comments are comments, I also don’t have to be objective at all in my comments. =) I am just being supportive of the referees – they are such poor things. The referees can never win, can they? Ah, and despite what you think – I am just as common as you.
I am also so sorry that my comments cause you and others’ (where?) unhappiness because all your comments did was to cause me amusement.
Its amazing how people can vent their anger out at me when I have nothing to do with the outcome of the match at all. Haha.
And oh, please continue reading Red Sports, in fact maybe you can send in reports – you really sound like an expert on them.
PS. For anyone that is concerned, I spoke to the organizers today and they said that the referees haven’t gotten into any trouble and their decision is the final say. Oh well, looks like the referees weren’t that wrong after all, were they? Glad I didn’t malign them in some subjective way.
well shouldn’t you be objective? as you said, you’re not linked to any schools and you have no reason to be subjective.
and to junkie, just cos i don’t like her tone doesn’t mean i cant read and comment cant i? why must i stay off the site?
and comments are comments, not reports on matches/anything. i don’t have to be objective at all. according to dictionary.com, com·ment Audio Help /ˈkÉ’mÉ›nt/ Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[kom-ent] Pronunciation Key – Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a remark, observation, or criticism
so i am able to make ‘judgement calls’. and am entitled to say what i do not like.
well, at least now i experience firsthand what’s it like to read about articles, knowing that certain significant details are left out. anyway, we’re all allowed to have our own personal views here while COMMENTING, so it’s okay if you think you’re being all fair and right, and i to think differently. and frankly speaking, i’m more ticked off by your comments than your article itself. because it’s in your comments where i feel you are being subjective. so maybe i’m wrong to insult you because you’re mostly showing signs of biasedness only in comments, which i feel is acceptable, just that i feel that as a reporter, you should moderate what you say, because you are not just a common person in this situation, and your words may spark off unhappiness. as you can see, i’m not the only one who feels this way.
bad calls by refrees are quite typical if you;re talking about singapore floorball, however, few things to point out:
1. how many refrees were there? there should have been 2.
2. jill should have been shown a red card for talking to the ref
3. hope rello or dennis refrees your next match, they are the best refrees in singapore
@spectator
once again, i must announce why the referee took back the penalty. it’s because he made a wrong call.
the reason for the cancellation of the penalty is that the further referee shouldn’t be the one calling for ‘in the box’ penalty. Also, the player in the box did not interfere with the play, and that’s the second reason why the penalty was cancelled.
Also, whether the player played the ball out from the box or not doesn’t matter, it’s still a penalty offence for any player(defending team) to be in the box. I hope this will enlighten you about floorball rules.
also, if you dont like the ‘subjective’ tone christy used, you can stay off this site. you can make the choice, can’t you?
to spectator:
I bet RJCians would have said that I was not being objective had I wrote the point in. Oh well, I can’t possibly please everyone.
Did I say I was objective? Though I feel that I have no reason to be subjective at all – given the fact that I have no whatsoever link to VJC and RJC and neither am I a fan of either school. Plus, I have no links with any referees, nor the coach, nor anybody that was involved in the match.
Ah spectator, it seems like you are pretty “objective” yourself, insisting that the referees are in the wrong. (from what I see from the comments, given the fact that I am not an expert, there seems to be conflicting comments on whether or not it was a right call or not.) So, i believe, the referees are innocent, until proven
guilty. Once they are proven guilty (if it even happens) and perhaps then will I write a whole article on how the referees were unprofessional, blah, blah and blah.
Oh yes, I saw the conversation. I omitted the conversation because I knew it will cause controversy. The RJC and VJC players deserve pats on their backs for playing well – I wanted to concentrate on that, the fact that their hard work should be recognized, not whether or not the RJC coach was unprofessional.
I also saw loads of other things happening – heck, if I had to write every single thing I saw, my report will be never-ending and nobody would probably want to read it.
Oh well, thanks for teaching me how to write. You make it sound like you would be able to do so much better than me, so do send in reports to Red Sports then – we welcome them. =)Oh, one piece of advice though, do drop your angry tone. Objectivity, remember?
