Update by reader Daniel Peters
Wednesday, July 22, 2008 – Raffles Institution beat Yuying Secondary 59-40 to win the South Zone C Division Boys Basketball Championship.
It was a wet afternoon, and the supporters filled the hall with their cheers, not caring about the volume of noise they were making.
Raffles and Yuying went at each others’ necks but Raffles managed to take a significant lead. Despite that, Yuying did not seem daunted at all and seemed motivated to do better. They gradually got better during the match but could not do enough to prevent Raffles Institution from winning 59-40.
Both teams gave their all in this match, and although Yuying lost, they lost with their dignity intact. After all, they still managed to finish second in South Zone after defeating very talented teams to get to the final.
RI and Yuying will be joined by Mayflower and Catholic High in the National Basketball Championship. Mayflower grabbed third place when they beat Catholic High in overtime.
In the East Zone Championship Final, Anglican High boys clinched the title by demolishing Dunman Secondary 107-43.

Raffles supporter,

You’re an . btw.
I also apologised for what “Raffles Supporter” had written in the comments. As an old boy of the school, such arrogant remarks are uncalled for. We should be appreciative that there is a posting of an article about my match against Yuying. And I was there. Yuying played very well too, matching the Raffles players in the four quarters. Let us look forward for an exciting National C Tournament.
i sincerely apologise on behalf of my school for what raffles supporter has said in his comments.i feel that he is being biased and is just being childish.
jordaan goh
Thanks for catching the spelling mistake 🙂
Oh uncle les, the last sentence where they stated anglican high clinched the east zone championship tital, I believe there is a spelling error in the word demoralising. Thanks.
To raffles ,
If you feel that your article would be better than someone’s I suggest that you post one of your own. It takes alot of courage to start posting and I believe that it is a good effort though.
Your report sounded bias by the way.
It’s not easy to write a report and I’d like to say it was a good first effort from Daniel Peters. We all have to start somewhere.
correction,, raffles captian is Jordaan is #8
wah lao…what kind of report is this…
it should go like this…
Raffles were clearly the better team..all the raffles players were running all over and intercepting every move by Yuying..Yuying could not penetrate the raffles defence and found difficulty to score….Raffles captain Jordaan #10 played the game of his life. Towards the end of the last quarter ,he had to retire with cramps..
Raffles #9 Justin was clearly the MVP, he control the centre court and ran along the lines with great speed and agility. The Yuying players could not stop him. Raffles could have gain another 10 points or so if they did not miss so many free throws…
RI players must put in more free throws practice if they want to do well at the national level…
so the stories goes..
