Nanyang Polytechnic, Tuesday, July 22, 2008 - Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) suffered a disappointing 1-8 defeat by Temasek Polytechnic (TP) in a Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) touch rugby championship game.
TP scored the first touchdown after a nice fake pass play and their captain (#14) used her speed to good effect to outrun the NP defenders after getting a good pass.
The third TP touchdown came after NP gave their opponents too much space to exploit. TP almost scored a fourth goal just before the end of the first period but dropped the ball just at the goal line.
A few minutes into the second half, NP finally broke their scoring drought when they scored a diving touchdown. But that proved only a brief respite. TP used their fast and quick players to devastating effect as they exploited huge gaps with good passing and when the final whistle sounded, TP walked off 8-1 winners.
Despite the obvious gap in standards, NP did not give up throughout and can take heart from their persevering attitude.
