Hi sports fans,
It goes without saying that your coach plays a big part in in your sporting life. With one word, you get to play. With another word, you sit on the bench. With the right words, you soar to new heights. With the wrong words, you get demoralised.
Over the course of reporting for this website, I’ve heard a whole range of terrible things coaches will say when they lose control. Here’s a collection of quotes the readers and I have heard:
1. “Can you see where the ball is going?!”
2. “Do you want to play this game or not?!”
3. “What kind of pass is that?! You want me to slap you?!”
4. “Did I teach you to throw into the defenders hands?!”
5. “ni shi pen dan!” (Translation: “You are stupid!”)
6. “Do you hate your opponent?! Do you hate your opponent?!!”
7. “Why are you smiling? You very happy is it???”
8. “When he is going to score, you push him over! You go for his legs! You kick him! You don’t stand there and stare!!!”
9. “Har? ni zai pai zao ah? xiang ge mu tou yi yang!” (Translation: Huh? You taking photo is it? Stand like wooden-block like that!)
10. “Who teach you one? Your Grandma is it?”
11. “Move like a butterfly, sting like a bee, just try not to fall down lah.”
12. “Hey!! wad kind of pass is tat? u wanna come back to de bench and drink kopi with me?”
13. ” You think you playing primary school ah?! You no brain, ah? Can’t see the ball coming is it?
14. “****, is the ball a chicken? If not why so hard to pick it up?”
15. “You so slow cow go home drink milk already!”
16. “"DAMN!!!! Your daddy should have went fishin the day they made you!”
17. “Walao eh! Got chance just shoot lah! Got so much time to fa dai and wait for opponent to snatch ball, ah?”
18. “Do you know how to run?! THEN DO IT!”
19. “Too fat ah? Cannot even jump 1/4 of a pepsi can! Jump higher!”
Feel free to add what you’ve heard to this list and I’ll update it.
Of course, some coaches do say inspirational things and some of you have shared them. So here they are:
“Give up now and die later.” Teo Jia Kai, HCI basketball coach
"When you have the ball, you are the boss." Timothy Teo Han Chua, SJI rugby coach
Some of us have become who we are because the right coach has taken the time with us to encourage us, teach us and train us.
So congrats to all the coaches who were nominated and especially to those who had hundreds of players and supporters vote for them. You all deserve every vote you got for the work you’ve done.

I agree with Glendon and would like to nominate my floorball coach Miss Seah Joo Yee. I think that she’s very inspirational and she values every single player under her. I may be a Year 1 floorballer who is insignificant amongst the J2 players, yet she still puts in effort to give us her advices in the midst of the ‘A’ Division, which was a very crucial period for her since she had to juggle with 2 teams at the same time.
Hopefully that an admirable coach like her will get the award because she truely deserves it.
low tong from phs
Foo Kwang Hock does not coach tongwhye temple but tongwhye physical
We are a ex-team of bdsians ruggers. We have had many coaches in the past & present but non is as good as our ex coach kelvin who used to coached Bedok South Sec. Not only is he a coach but a mentor and friend who will go an extra mile to lend a helping hand everytime we need him.
The voting has not begun as this is still the nomination period.
Nomination period will end on August 30 and voting will begin after.
uncle les, u told us how to nominate.but how to vote?
And how exactly are you going to determine who is the best coach? Are you sure the number of votes can really show how good a coach is?
when can vote?
I think that my coach , Miss Seah Joo Yee is an outstanding coach and should deserve the award. Under here guidiance, the MJC floorball team has made an huge impact int he arena of A div floorball with the gals team with back to back chapionship wins in 2007 and 2008 and the guys getting 1st in 2007 and 2nd in 2008.
Championships won aside, she has always given her best while training us, often rushing between both the gals guys training to train us both. During trainings , she goes beyond the call of duty by not only teaching us to be great players but inculcating in us values which will make us respectable sportsmen and sportswomen.
Her dedication to the team is undeniable, never once have i seen her miss a training even when she is very sick.
