Beijing, Sunday, August 10, 2008 – Bryan Tay of Singapore won his 200m heat in a new national record time of 1 minute 50.41 seconds. The old national record time of 1:52.09 was set two years ago at the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
Bryan was slightly ahead of Vladimir Sidorkin of Estonia at the 50m-mark but Sidorkin edged ahead at the 100m mark. But Bryan pulled ahead by 0.42sec at the 150m mark to finally finish first. Sidorkin finished second in 1:51.27.
Bryan’s timing placed him 41st overall out of 57 starters for the event and he did not qualify for the semi-finals.
Ah! Thanks for checking, Nic. I got the info from the official Beijing results website. But I think the Singapore Swimming one is the better reference.
actually, according to the Singapore Swimming website, Bryan’s previous PB was 1:52.09, which is also the current national record, which was set at the Asian Games in Doha in 2006.
Ah…so you all actually read it ah!
Sorry for the error. 😉 Brain moving slowly today.
hmm, you mean faster is it? “His time was also slower than his personal best of 1:53.26 set two years ago in Singapore.” His timing just now was 1 min 50.41, so he broke his personal best right?
uncle les, there’s an error in the 2nd sentence. It should be ‘faster than his personal best of 1:53.26’ rather than slower.
