Beijing, Saturday, August 9, 2008 – Singapore shuttler Xing Aiying fell in the first round of the badminton event at the Beijing Olympics when she lost 19-21, 12-21 to Olga Konon of Belarus. Ranked 24th in the world, Aiying had a good run-up to the Beijing Olympics, beating higher-ranked opponents in various tournaments.

At the Thailand Open in June, 19-year-old Aiying upset world #7 Zhou Mi from Hong Kong in three sets and reached the semi-finals. She was also the only Singaporean player to reach the quarter-final round of the Singapore Open earlier this year.
