Beijing, Monday, August 11, 2008 – He tried and he battled but he still could not hold off Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia and eventually lost out 13-21, 14-21. There were a couple of minutes in the first set where it was Lee who was chasing Ronald, but there was to be no denying the Malaysia second seed as he found his stride with a couple of cross-court smashes and clever drop shots.
Ronald was still battling in the second set and he took three consecutive points, going from 8-11 to tie the game at 11-11. Ronald did his best to keep up with Lee but eventually the succumbed.
Still, having been injured for almost the whole of the past year, to be able to make Lee Chong Wei, the number two in the world, sweat a little in his first match, one is left wondering what Ronald Susilo could have offered if he had the form of Athens 2004 when he beat Lin Dan of China in the first round.

There is no need to mention “pure Singaporean”. What defines “pure Singaporean”? Ronald is a Singaporean citizen. Leave it at that.
I feel that in certain parts he did looked like he was giving up , like certain net plays and making some errors which should have been avoided. But being out injured for the almost the whole of the past year , you gotta give him that benefit of the doubt that he did try but maybe not to his best. This is all in my opinion that is .
In my opinion, after looking at the match this morning i wouldn’t actually say he did his best. If you would look at his facial expressions and his moves closely you would have noticed he’d given up before the match had started.
It is a waste of money to me to send him there, probably Kendrick Lee who’s a pure Singaporean would have done better.
