Swimmer Tao Li finished fifth in her 200m butterfly heat in a time of 2 minutes 12.63 seconds, a new national record. Her time placed her 26th out of 34 swimmers. Only the top 16 swimmers qualify for the semi-finals.

At the 2006 Asian Championships, Tao Li swam the same event in 2min 17.13sec.
