Beijing, Wednesday, August 13, 2008 – Swimmer Nicolette Teo faded after the 50m mark to finish last in her 200m breaststroke heat in a time of 2 minutes 34.60 seconds, substantially outside her national record time of 2min 31.96sec.
Swimming fourth at the 50m mark, she dropped to fifth at the 100m mark with Siow Yi Ting of Malaysia and Smiiljana Marinovic of Croatia neck and neck. By the 150m mark, Nicolette was almost three seconds off the pace of eventual winner Yi Ting.
Nicolette’s time placed her 36th out of 40 competitors. If she had matched her national record time, she would have placed 33rd in the field.
