Beijing, Wednesday, August 13, 2008 – Singapore’s Quah Ting Wen won her 100m freestyle heat in a time of 56.14 seconds this evening at the Beijing Olympics. Orsolya Tompa of Hungary led at the 50m mark but Ting Wen did enough to overhaul the Hungarian to win, pushing Thai Natthanan Junkrajang into second place while Tompa finished third.
Ting Wen’s time placed her 34th out of 48 competitors. Only the top 16 swimmers qualify for the semi-finals.
Ting Wen’s time is just outside the Singapore national record time of 56.05sec for the 100m freestyle set by Joscelin Yeo at the 1999 SEA Games held in Brunei.
