Beijing, Thursday, August 14, 2008 – Swimmer Lynette Lim set a new national record in the 800m freestyle when she came home in a time of 8 minutes 45.56 seconds in her qualifying heat this evening.
She finished sixth in her heat which was won by Susana Escobar of Mexico in a time of 8min 33.51sec. Lynette’s time placed her 30th out of 35 competitors in the event.
Earlier in the week, Lynette had swum in the 200m and 400m freestyle heats. In the 200m freestyle, she clocked 2min 02.30sec, 0.14 seconds outside her national record time of 2min 02.16sec. She placed 36th out of 46 competitors.
In the 400m freestyle, she clocked 4min 17.67sec which placed her 30th out of 41 competitors. Her time was more than a second slower than her national record time of 4min 16.42sec.
