Beijing, Thursday, August 14, 2008 – The Singapore men’s table tennis team lost 1-3 to Germany this evening. The team lost its chance to qualify for the semi-finals with this defeat and their attention will now turn to the individual event.

Cai Xiao Li went down 7-11, 2-11, 5-11 to Timo Boll in 15 muntes. His teammate Gao Ning then won his tie against Dimitrij Ovtcharov 11-7, 11-7, 11-8 to even the tie up.

Yang Zi then teamed up with Gao Ning but they went down 8-11, 3-11, 10-12 to Christian Suss and Timo Boll.

Yang Zi then raised Singapore hopes when he tussled with Dimitrij Ovtcharov in a five-set 33-minute duel but eventually succumbed 12-10, 3-11, 11-4, 6-11, 5-11.
