Hougang Sports Hall, Sunday, November 2, 2008 - Hwa Chong Institution (Team B) beat Anderson Secondary 2-0 (25-13, 25-16) in a Group A match at the 2008 National Under-16 Boys Junior Volleyball Championship.
With superb serving and high quality spikes, it was no surprise that Hwa Chong (HCI) led from start to finish with Anderson only managing to pose a challenge early in the second set.
From the start, HCI took the game to Anderson and raced to an early lead. The HCI middle spiker #13 spearheaded the attack for his team and it wasn't long before HCI started running away with the game to lead 18-9. Some unforced errors by HCI gave Anderson some hope, but those were minor hiccups before HCI wrapped up the first set 25-13.
In the second set, Anderson refused to give up despite being one set down and started on a high with their outside hitter #10 delivering some unstoppable spikes to give the team a brief lead. This was short lived though as HCI replied to level the score. HCI middle spiker #14 deserves mention as he continued the good work done by #13 in the first set.
Anderson kept within striking distance, but with HCI showing great team work and movement around the court, they slowly began to pull away from Anderson.
Anderson probably found it hard to handle the blocking and spiking of HCI. A mix up in the Anderson rotation didn't help their cause and gave critical points to HCI. A series of superb serves from HCI followed by powerful spikes proved impossible for Anderson to handle.
HCI #4 claimed the last two points of the game as he spiked into an open area, followed by a strong serve that Anderson could not handle to cap off a great performance by HCI 25-16.
Final score: 2 – 0 (25 -13, 25 -16)
