The Singapore Sprint Series, which made its debut this year, is back for 2009. The series comprises of three sprint races – a sprint aquathlon (750m swim/5km run), a sprint duathlon (3km run/15km bike/3km run) and a sprint triathlon (740m swim/20km bike/5km run).

Endurance athletes chalk up points from race to race and a series champion gets crowned at the end of the three races, a unique feature in the Singapore endurance sports scene.

This year’s series winners were Sebastien Calle (men’s) and Kristy Housley (women’s) with Singapore’s Clement Chow putting in a strong performance by finishing just behind Calle. A Singapore Sports School team also finished a credible second in the team category.

In addition, a new mini aquathlon (200m swim/2.5km run) has been added for the first race on February 22nd, 2009. The mini aquathlon is usually a useful introduction for first-timers to endurance sports.

With the Singapore sports calendar usually chock-a-block in the second half of the year, Tribob, the organiser of the series, has moved the Singapore Sprint Series into the first quarter of 2009.

The sprint duathlon is scheduled for March 15th, 2009, while the sprint triathlon will take place on April 19th, 2009.
