Singapore Island Country Club, November 30, 2008 – An interrupted final day of the Lexus Cup 2008 produced some nail biting matches that took it right down to the last match when Team International clinched the trophy 12½ to 11½ .
Annika Sorenstam said, "I could not have asked for a better ending, I kept getting goose bumps out there and I am really proud of the team for trying so hard."
The Captains opened the day's proceedings and Annika was on fire when she won by three shots on the 16th hole. Team Asia replied in style with a win for vice captain Sarah Lee over Nicole Castrale on the 18th and the points were shared in match three between Yani Tseng and Suzann Pettersen who sank a birdie on the last to get the draw.
Pettersen was relieved after her game saying, "I hit more of an aggressive line than I intended to but the ball went in my favour and I just had to try and make the putt."
Alfredsson used her experience to outplay Inbee Park with two holes to play but again, Asia came back in the next match and Na Yeon Choi took it back level with a win over Paula Creamer.
Despite two play suspensions earlier in the day due to bad weather, the 6,000-strong crowd stayed around Singapore Island Country Club to watch the teams battle it out right down to the wire and it was left to Team International rookie Christina Kim to tie her match with Japan's Namika Omata to give her side the victory by a single point.
"This is such a thrill. To be here and to win for Annika is the greatest feeling," explained Kim on the 18th green.
Team International celebrated with champagne sprays before receiving their trophy from Mr Toshiro Hidaka, Deputy Managing Director of Toyota Motor Asia Pacific. Both teams were also presented with orchid garlands as a thank you for their efforts and appearance in the fourth edition of the Lexus Cup.
"There's nothing like a team event and when you pull it all together the atmosphere and camaraderie is one of a kind. It is great to finish on a high like this," exclaimed Sorenstam.
