Christmas is a special time of the year and is more than a holiday for me because I am a Christian.

One of the motivations for me in putting this site up without any corporate or government backing at the start is that we are God’s creation.

One of the unique gifts he has given some of us is the ability to run like the wind, shoot with astonishing accuracy, jump incredible heights or throw awesome distances.

Some of you dance around your opponents with a grace that can be only described as heavenly. Some of you run long distances like you have two lungs and angel’s wings.

I believe that in a world far too obsessed only with international sports stars, our fellow Singaporean is worth watching at play at both youth and international level. If we take the time to watch a school game or a national team game, we are saying, “We support you” in a meaningful way.

We don’t have many world-beaters here on this island but champions have to start somewhere. And they can do with our support of just showing up.

But beyond just winning a medal or a trophy, a title or a championship, we affirm who we are and where have come from when we watch a game at the National Stadium or at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

For this is where we grew up and went to school. This is where we won our first medals or found our first teammates.

This is a small island but a blessed island.

This is our home.

Merry Christmas, everyone.
