Nottingham, England, Saturday, January 15-16, 2008 – Thirteen year-old Sarah Afiqah Rodgers, a Singaporean living in Scotland, won a Bronze medal in the Ladies Novice event at the 2008/2009 British Ice Figure and Synchronized Skating Championships.
"Thank you so much to everyone in Singapore who called, texted and facebooked their support for me," said a tired but exuberant Sarah. "I really appreciated it. See you all in Singapore soon!"
Competing in a field of 25 skaters, Sarah placed 3rd overall with a combined total score for the event of 84.54 points.
In the short program, she placed 3rd with a score of 31.22. In the free programme, she placed 2nd with a score of 53.32.
Only 1.45 points separated Sarah from the gold-medal winning score of 85.95.
Sarah is a past National Champion in Singapore. Although Sarah lives in Scotland and trains part-time in Canada, her heart (and her citizenship!) belongs to Singapore.
