The first Red Sports Awards Party was held last Saturday, January 31st, 2009 at the Civil Service Club. It was a night to honour the poll winners here on Red Sports in 2008.

A total of 32 athletes from the different sports came to get their tokens of appreciation from adidas and Red Sports.

The winners were all called on stage to collect their prizes from Aleksandar Duric, Singapore’s national footballer.

Red Sports 2008 Young Athletes of the Year, rugger Low Feng Hua and figure skater Alexandria Wong, won themselves a pair of mi adidas custom shoes.

“I’m glad to have finally met the poll winners in person,” said uncle Les. “Before tonight, we were merely an online community but it gladdened my heart to meet everyone in person.”

Uncle Les also hosted Feng Hua and Alexandria on stage and it was interesting to hear about what made them tick, their sporting experiences and what plans they had for the future.

Aleksandar Duric was the final guest of the evening on stage and the naturalised Singaporean striker shared how he became a Singaporean.

Graduating REDinterns of the first REDaction! Internship program were also surprised with a Red Sports mandarin collar shirt with their names embroidered and six of them now join the ranks of the REDCrew.

To top it all off, Jan and the organizing committee surprised guests and uncle Les with a cake to celebrate the second birthday of Red Sports.

To all who came: we appreciate your presence at the very first Red Sports Award Party.

Here's to another great sporting year and another year of Red Sports!

See you next year!
