Red Sports welcomed a new batch of REDinterns last month as they embarked on the REDaction! internship programme.
The interns were put through a sports writing workshop by veteran writer Laura Reid who covered the basic elements of a sports article and conducted hands-on writing exercises.
It was definitely not an easy task capturing information quickly and accurately, and then fleshing it out into a concise yet engaging piece of work.
The afternoon was spent on photography, with REDcrew Lai Jun Wei covering the technical aspects of photography and sharing his experience working on the site.
Red Sports creator Leslie Tan shared with the interns the mission for the site.
“Our aim is to bring the passionate, vibrant world of Singapore sports to light, and to encourage student athletes by recognising the efforts they have put in through our stories,” he said.
The REDaction! internship is a six-month programme meant to expose youth interested in sports writing and photography as a career in Singapore’s sports industry.

She *did* stab me. You just didn’t get the shot!
Amazing photography I must say, junwei haha.
Hong yong here, cheers.
Come now, Laura. You must admit those photos capture a certain je-ne-sais-quoi that is essentially you. 😉
Incidentally, here is a quote you can use at the next Red Sports writing workshop – “Students achieving Oneness will move on to Twoness.”
It’s by Woody Allen. Hahahaha….
Jun Wei…what are we gonna do with you! Something not nice, I think.
Yeah.. Look at picture 10.. You look like you were gonna stab Laura with the pencil.. =P
Jan, you aren’t the only “victim” of Jun Wei’s search for photographic truth. I look exactly like the stationery junkie that I am….
I saw you hunched over there.. Wanted to take a pic to show how poor thing you were, hunched up and typing away “furiously”… 😛
