Clementi Town hopes dashed after defeat against Nanyang Girls’ High in B Division West Zone netball

River Valley High, Tuesday, February 17, 2009 – Nanyang Girls’ High qualified for the second round of the B Division West Zone Netball Championship after they beat Clementi Town Secondary 37-22 in the deciding game.

Both teams started the first quarter nervously which affected their performance. Clementi Town were not patient with their passes and their hastiness did not help them in their scoring attempts. Nanyang Girls’ also committed inaccurate passes and committed simple mistakes like stepping on the line for a throw in, and lost many scoring opportunities.

However, the Clementi Town Goal Keeper, Toh Hui Ping helped the Nanyang cause by committing contact fouls, which allowed Nanyang to bring the ball into the goal circle effortlessly. The first quarter ended tied at 6-6.

In the second quarter, Clementi Town were still rushing their play and not playing at a comfortable pace, giving Nanyang many turnovers. Nanyang took advantage of the chances, with their Wing Attack and shooters combing to take a four-point lead at the end of the second quarter.

Clementi Town then came undone in the third quarter. The Nanyang attacking flow gave the Clementi Town defenders a hard time and their defenders were able to break the flow of the Clementi Town attack. Clementi Town could not get round the Nanyang defenders to bring the ball down to the goal circle and managed to score three goals this quarter, giving Nanyang a comfortable 29-16 lead at the end of the third.

Despite trailing by such a huge deficit, Clementi Town diaplayed put in the utmost effort to challenge Nanyang in the fourth quarter. Clementi Town’s Goal Keeper found a way to stop the Nanyang midfielders from feeding the shooters but it was just too late for Clementi Town to close the gap.
