Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, March 4, 2009 - Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary beat Anderson Secondary 64-53 to clinch third place in the B Division Girls North Zone Basketball Championship.
Ahmad Ibrahim started the match strongly and caught Anderson by surprise to take the first quarter 23-10. Anzie (Ahmad Ibrahim, #7), Yongmei (Ahmad Ibrahim , #8) and Mei Teng (Ahmad Ibrahim, #6) all contributed to the 23 points that pushed Ahmad Ibrahim ahead in the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Anderson catching up slowly, outscoring Ahmad Ibrahim 10 points to nine, but they still trailed by 12 points. Anderson top scorer S. Lekha (Anderson, #7), scored eight out of the 10 points, which included two 3-point shots.
An exciting third quarter saw Anderson narrow the gap from 13 points in the first quarter to two by the end of the third quarter. S. Lekha (Anderson, #7) contributed eight of the 20 points scored by Anderson in those 10 minutes. Ahmad Ibrahim, scoring only 10 points during that quarter, committed careless errors to turn the ball over to Anderson.
In the deciding fourth quarter, Ahmad Ibrahim managed to get back into an 11-point lead after Anderson threatened to come back. Anderson saw three 3-pointers by S. Lekha (Anderson, #7) along with four points by Edna Lim (Anderson, #4).
Despite the Anderson coach calling two timeouts in the closing minutes of the game, it still wasn't enough to stop Ahmad Ibrahim from finishing the game 64-53 victors.
1st /2nd placing match will be held tomorrow at Singapore Basketball Centre between Yishun Town and Woodgrove.
