CCAB, Friday, March 6, 2009 – The B and C Division volleyball boys took to the CCAB courts today with a total of 7 matches played between them.

In the B Division, defending champions St Hilda's Secondary School carried on their relentless pursuit to retain their title with a straight sets win over Fairfield Methodist Secondary School. Fellow group C rivals Xinmin Secondary School also qualified for the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Hwa Chong Institution.

In Group D, Dunman Secondary School scored their second straight 2-1 win to move to the top of the group. Their opponents, Yishun Town Secondary School, are now tied on three points with South Zone champions Zhonghua Secondary School, who beat near-namesakes Zhenghua Secondary School 2-0 today. Two quarter-final berths are at stake as the 4 teams conclude their group play on Tuesday, March 10th.

Over in the C Division, the four Group B teams played their final round of matches today. In a match to determine the table-toppers, 2008 2nd-runner up Shuqun Secondary defeated Punggol Secondary School in three sets. St Hilda's Secondary registered their first win of the National round by securing a 2-0 win over Queensway Secondary School, but both teams were already out of the running before today.

In the solitary Group C match today, Clementi Town Secondary School ensured that the race for the 2 quarter-final slots would go down to the wire by upsetting group leaders Fairfield Methodist 2-1. Both teams now have 5 points on the back of 2 wins and a loss, and Anderson Secondary School, who have split their two matches, look likely to mirror their records as they play Pasir Ris Secondary School, who have two losses so far, in their final match.

If the form book is followed and a 3-way tie occurs, Fairfield Methodist and Anderson will advance based on the number of sets won and lost. Their records now stand at 5-2 and 2-2 respectively, while Clementi Town has won and lost 4 sets each. The three teams, though, will now have to sweat on the final standings, as the Anderson-Pasir Ris match takes place on 12 March at 4.30pm - the final day of B and C Division group matches.
