With an ageing population in Singapore, one of the challenges is to encourage seniors to stay active and healthy.

A Wellness Programme for senior residents was recently launched by the People’s Association with Mr Lim Boon Heng, Minister, Prime Minister's Office, on hand with more than 170 grassroots leaders to champion the Wellness Programme in the First Fitness Assessment on Saturday, 28 March 2009 at the PA Headquarters.

The experience of the fitness assessment gave the various Members of Parliament who are grassroots advisers a better idea of how the assessment can be conducted for their senior residents.

Under the Programme which is currently being implemented in 12 Wellness sites, seniors will be able to undergo health screening, go through fitness assessments and participate in physical activities. Through the assessment, seniors will be able to take charge of their health and seek medical advice or intensify their involvement in physical activities to improve their fitness level.

The Wellness Programme is led by the PA, with the support of the MCYS, Ministry of Health and the Health Promotion Board.
