Jurong West Sports Hall, Friday, April 17, 2009 - Yishun Town Secondary overcame Nanyang Girls' High 48-43 in a girls' B Division Basketball Championship quarter-final match without needing the presence of their head coach who had to coach Jurong Secondary in their game against Raffles Girls’ School.

Both teams boasted unbeaten records as they headed into this match-up.

The first points of the game only poured after 5:45 of play but it was Yishun Town who led 7-4 at the first quarter break.

Nanyang Girls' then turned on the heat as they began on a bright note for the second quarter. They were leading by five points for a period of time but Yishun Town managed to cut the deficit to just two.

Though playing without their head coach, Yishun Town players worked hard for one another and they stoked a revival in the third quarter. However, Nanyang Girls' came back with a 7-0 run and established a four-point lead by the end of the third quarter.

The Yishun Town efforts paid off as they managed to step up a gear in the final quarter, especially Shermaine See (YTS #4), who contributed 21 points in this thrilling game. They dealt with Nanyang Girls' key player Sharlene Huang (#13) who faded late into the game.

The last three minutes proved crucial with Yishun Town gaining the upper hand after Nanyang Girls' committed a series of turnovers. Yishun Town were also able to convert their second-chance points for their eventual 48-43 victory.

Yishun Town will look to defend their 100% record against Raffles Girls' School while Nanyang Girls' will need a win against Jurong Secondary to advance into the semi-finals.
