A new event, the POSB Run for Kids, is set to take place for the first time in the northern part of the island, giving runners a chance to take in a route next to the Serangoon Reservoir.
The organisers have catered an 8km route for serious runners while leisure runners can opt for the 3.6km route. Kids can take part in a shorter 1.6km route.
The POSB Run for Kids will see the bank channel all registration fees and donations equally to an education welfare fund for primary school children, managed by Punggol Central CCC, and the Singapore Children’s Society.
“As the people’s bank, it is POSB’s tradition to give back to the community and children hold a special place in our heart,” said Davy Wee, Head of POSB. “The Singapore Children’s Society is an organisation that reaches out to children while through the Punggol Central CCC’s education welfare fund, we can help the children in this community to enjoy their school life better."
“Singaporeans see POSB as a friendly neighbour and trusted bank. So we wanted the run to be held within the community,” said Mr Wee. “Half the funds raised will go towards an education welfare fund that will benefit children in the Pasir Ris – Punggol GRC area, so holding the run in Sengkang makes it more accessible for the children, their families and neighbours."
Organisers expect a crowd of 5,000 and the closing date for registration is June 15th, 2009.
