Jalan Besar Stadium, Monday, June 9, 2009 – Singapore Armed Forces FC advanced to the quarter-final of the 2009 League Cup with a 2-0 victory over Albirex Niigata (Singapore) in Group A. It was a do-or-die match for the Warriors as anything less than a win would means failure to advance.
A goal in the 13th minute by John Wilkinson gave SAFFC an early lead, but the match remained close until Shaiful Esah scored a free kick in the 82nd minute to put the match beyond Albirex Niigata.
SAFFC will now play Tampines Roves in the quarter-final who, despite losing 0-1 to Young Lions, topped Group B on goal difference.
