Bishan Stadium, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 – Zachary Ryan Devaraj was withdrawn from his 800m heat today after the runner developed H1N1 symptoms last night.
Zachary, who finished 6th in the 1500m final yesterday and was slated to run in the 2nd heat of his pet event today, has been advised to stay behind at the Swissotel the Stamford, the Games village, on the grounds that he was not feeling well. The heat went on as scheduled.
In other action on Day 2 of the Athletics championships at the Asian Youth Games, Nurshaishireen placed 5th in the girls’ triple jump final with a personal best of 11.08m.
Over on the track, Inez Leong qualified for the finals of the girls’ 100m hurdles after finishing 3rd in her heat, good enough for an automatic spot in tomorrow’s final. Her time of 16.01s placed her 5th fastest overall.

Zachary was needlessly suspected of H1N1. The facts and truth will speak for this. IT TOOK 19 HOURS for result to come out which was negative. He did his personal best in both 800m and 1500m on 27th(sat) and 28th (sun) and also competed in 4 X 400m. Just tuesday he competed in 1500m at AYG.
Was he sick ? never at any moment !
19hrs for test results to come out.
NEGATIVE . NEGATIVE . NEGATIVE
Did they allow him to run? he could have if they had not changed the published time which was from 5pm onwards.
If you can bring forward the time and decide to have so many changes to track & field composition and times; IN THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT THEY COULD HAVE ALLOWED HIM TO RUN AS HE REACHED THE STADIUM BY 515PM/
Should Zachary represent Singapore again?
Should he run at an event organised in Singapore ?
Where is there justice and fairness.?
Should not family been informed of his isolation ?yes only 12 hours later.
Would you like to be alone in a very comfortable room with nothing but 19hours to know your outcome of an H1N1 test .
No visits for 19hrs?
Yes this is the price to pay for because we love to run. we have passion to compete in sports and do our best.
GUYS…do not let anyone stop you from running !
you will not keep Zach down. There are many other events where he has a chance. SADLY THE DREAM OF A AYG MEDAL IS OVER. but no one can take away our passion to run.
Lets get over this setback. There will be another school race to look forward to.Should we trust or have hopes for YOG ?
