Jalan Besar Stadium, Sunday, October 4, 2009 - Former national footballer and sports icon Dollah Kassim collapsed after playing in a friendly match between veteran Singapore and Malaysian players earlier tonight.
According to a Football Association of Singapore (FAS) statement, Dollah played just 10 minutes of the match before suffering a seizure pitch side. He was given assistance pitch side before being rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he is now in critical condition.
Dollah Kassim was one of Singapore's football luminaries of the 1970s, and earned the nickname “Gelek King” because of his superb ball control and ability to dribble past several opponents at a go.
Tonight's match was the traditional curtain-raiser for the 2009 Sultan of Selangor's Cup between Singapore Selection and Selangor Selection, and featured other household names of Singapore football like Fandi Ahmad, Quah Kim Song, Malek Awab, V Sundram Moorthy, Lim Tong Hai and Samad Allapitchay.
