Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Monday, October 19, 2009 – Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) floorball boys continued the winning start to their school’s Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Floorball Championship season when they beat Singapore Polytechnic (SP) 7-0. Their women counterparts had earlier beaten SP 9-0.

NYP exposed the loopholes in SP’s lineup and scored six goals in the first period alone.

Johnson Sivalingam (NYP #16) scored three minutes in, straight from the midline. The SP defenders were scattered around and could not do anything to stop the shot. Johnson struck again five minutes later from the right flank after dispossessing an SP defender who was on the counter-attack.

With just a little over five minutes left in the period, Mohd Sabri B Yuhari (NYP #5) scored for his team, making it 3-0 and Jenmark Binay (NYP #10) scored from the left flank two minutes later. Johnson completed a hat trick when he scored with a minute left on the clock.

SP reorganised themselves in the second and third periods, allowing only one more NYP goal until the final whistle.

In the 25th minute, R. Suria (SP #99) tried a shot from the left but the keeper saved. SP pushed higher up, leading to an opportunity for Mohd Sabri B Yuhari, who had a clean shot with no defenders to stop him but nothing came of it.

The third period saw more attempts from SP. Six minutes into the third period, Muhammad Aiman (SP #7) made a cross to R. Suria from the left flank but the latter failed to convert an excellent opportunity. Muhammad Yunus (SP #4) tried moments later from the right flank, but the keeper saved well.

“It is their first time playing together as a team, takes time to gel,” commented SP’s Coach Rello about his boys. He revealed that he fielded more younger players for the game to give them a chance for exposure.

“We lost more on skills to the other side …. More focus on the (next) game, make more goals,” he added, on what steps they will take for the next game against Republic Polytechnic on Wednesday, October 21.
