CCAB, Wednesday, February 10, 2010 - Raffles Institution scored exactly 100 points on their way to a comfortable 100-38 victory over Kent Ridge in the second round of the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
RI continued their winning run in Group Y after earlier victories over Catholic High (61-52) and Gan Eng Seng (80-36). Kent Ridge, on the other hand, have a 0-2 record after falling 80-35 to Peirce Secondary in their first match.
There was no stopping RI from the tip off as they quickly established a 17-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, before storming to a double digit lead at 32-18 at the half.
Despite having a comfortable lead, RI continued to pile on the pressure in the second half, forcing Kent Ridge into turnovers which resulted in easy points on the break.
Jordaan Goh was top scorer for this side, scoring one quarter of his side’s points while Brendan Sim (RI, #7) added another 18 points as they led RI to the 100-38 victory.
“We made use of this match to work out certain plays because at this point in the tournament, it is still anybody’s game,” commented RI coach Poh Yeang Cherng after the match. He also chose to point out captain Jordaan Goh as the key player in the match with his game-high 25 points.
RI will next play Peirce Secondary who have also won all their matches in the second round. Kent Ridge will hope to turn their fortunes around against defending champions Catholic High.
