Republic Polytechnic, Friday, February 26, 2010 – Defending zonal Champions Singapore Sports School and North Vista continued their winning-streak in round two of the North Zone B Division Netball Championships, recording easy victories over Canberra Secondary and Seng Kang Secondary in their respective groups.
Singapore Sports School beat Canberra 49-12 while North Vista overcame Seng Kang 32-10.
With the victories, both schools progress to the semi-final stages as the undefeated winners of their groups. Canberra Secondary also made it through alongside Sports School in Group Y while Anderson Secondary edged out Yio Chu Kang Secondary to ensure qualification to the next round.
In Group X, Seng Kang Secondary had overcome to the unbeaten North Vista to have any chance of progressing to the next round, but it proved too high a mountain to climb, as they fell 32-10.
Yio Chu Kang also crashed out after they were beaten by Anderson Secondary. Coming into the match with a 2-2 record, Yio Chu Kang needed a big win to make it to the semi-final. Unfortunately for them, Anderson managed to pull of the 25-13 win.
Earlier in the day, Bowen overcame Evergreen 20-16.
The match of the day belonged to Singapore Sports School and Canberra. As both teams came into the match with identical perfect records in Group Y, the winner of this match would finish top of the group. Although Canberra fought hard, Sports School pulled away in the third quarter, limiting their opponents to just a single point in that quarter and eventually emerging 49-12 winners.
"The team did really well today,” commented Natalie Koh, Sports School’s captain. “The beginning was a bit shaky with both teams fighting really hard and playing at a fast pace. We have been training hard so we all know what to do next and we just call out the plays. I think our Centre and Wing Defense in the last quarter was key in today’s match as went on hard for every ball."
The undefeated defending champions will next play Anderson Secondary in the semi-finals while North Vista will be up against Canberra Secondary for spot in the final.
Anderson’s WA looks for a player to pass to. Their opponents, Yio Chu Kang, had to beat them to have any chance of making it to the semi-final, but Anderson came out on top 25-13. (Photo 2 © Koh Yizhe/Red Sports)
