Presbyterian High School, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 - Cedar Girls' Secondary overcame a difficult Dunman High 2-0 (25-19, 25-12) in a Group D match at the National C Division Girls Volleyball Championship.
Dunman started off well, taking an early 8-3 lead. Cedar, on the other hand, had a shaky start, finding difficulty in countering Dunman's long shots to the back court. Mistakes by their attackers, and their inability to return the ball back saw Dunman run off with the lead.
However, Cedar showed what champions are made of and chased hard. Levelling the score at 17-17, they did not look back and fought off Dunman to take the set 25-19.
Cedar were beginning to get accustomed to Dunman's play, and found all ways to counter them. Their spikers also started to find form and put several points on the scoreboard for the team. It was not long before they were leading 24-9.
However, a drop shot by Dunman's setter held off Cedar's win. Cedar could not convert at the next rally, but put an end to the game when they decisively sealed the game 25-12.
Cedar and Dunman High are drawn into Group D alongside Xinmin and Hua Yi Secondary. Together with Cedar, Hua Yi have one win to their name after edging out Xinmin 2-1 in a close encounter earlier on. The next Group D match will be on Thursday, March 4 at 12pm where Cedar will play Xinmin. All B and C Division matches are held at Presbyterian High School.
