Balestier Hill Secondary School, Thursday, March 4, 2010 – Serangoon Garden Secondary recorded a 5-2 win over Kent Ridge Secondary in the South Zone C Division Football Championship.
Kent Ridge took an early lead through Muhammad Shafie (#8) in the second minute, but Serangoon Garden stormed back, equalising in the seventh minute through their #8, before scoring another two through #19 and #16 to give them a comfortable 3-1 lead.
Nurhalis (Kent Ridge, #10) then turned in a header from a free-kick to pull one back. However, a blunder by Kent Ridge keeper Mohammad Shukri Afiq, after he failed to catch a back-pass, allowed Serangoon Garden to regain a comfortable two-goal lead.
The captain of Serangoon Garden put the game beyond Kent Ridge, scoring a penalty after the Kent Ridge keeper committed a foul in the box.
Kent Ridge have lost their prior three matches and lie in fifth position in their group.
Kent Ridge’s captain, Nurhalis, said, “We can only hope that Serangoon Garden lose all their games left and we win all our games, then we might be able to go through to the second round. But I think no chance.”
Kent Ridge will play their next match against Fairfield Methodist Secondary School on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, while Serangoon Garden will face off against Balestier Hill Secondary on the same day.
