Teck Ghee Primary School, Friday, March 5, 2010 – Height matters, and there is no place more obviously seen than in primary school basketball.

Teck Ghee’s lanky centre #14, standing at more than 1.8m tall, did everything for his team from scoring to defending to rebounding in a dominant 32-19 semi final win over First Toa Payoh Primary School.

Yet that was not to mean that the semi final was one sided all the way.

The 12 and 13 year old boys from First Toa Payoh Primary had held the favourites and hosts to a 12-11 lead by the end of the first half.

However the visitors could not prevent the home team from extending the lead in the third quarter, even tough they deployed a “goalkeeper” in their defensive paint while in offense, mainly to snuff out the threat posed by the Teck Ghee’s centre.

The win pits Teck Ghee Primary with defending champions Kheng Cheng Primary School, who put in a heroic performance to edge out Yangzheng Primary School 48-43 in the other semi final.

The final will be played at Raffles Girls’ Primary School’s indoor hall on 10 March (Wed). Pei Chun Primary will play Raffles Girls’ Primary in the senior girls South Zone final.
