All time best Schools Cross country runner?
If it’s based on most number of individual titles:
Boys:
4 – S. Vasu (1982, 1984, 1985, 1986)
Girls:
4 – Sharon Marsh (1982, 1983, 1984, 1985)
4 – Rahmah Begum (1995, 1998, 1999, 2000)
If it’s based on winning titles in all 3 divisions:
M. Maran (1984 C Boys, 1987 B Boys, 1989 A Boys)
S. Vasu (1982 C Boys, 1984/85 B Boys, 1986 A Boys)
Rahmah Begum (1995 C Girls, 1998 B Girls, 1999/2000 A Girls)
If it’s based on most consecutive titles:
Girls:
4 – Sharon Marsh (1982-1985)
3 – Rahmah Begum (1998-2000)
3 – Choo Mui Luan (1994-1996)
3 – Pamela Chia (2001-2003)
3 – Neo Poh Hua (1971-1973)
Boys:
3 – S Vasu (1984-1986)
3 – Koh Kai Ming (2004-2006)
Just some food for thought.
What would you consider when listing the best cross country runners?
In recent history, there have been a few such scenarios.
Girls:
2004 Yvonne Lin (Hua Yi) placed first in 14 mins 41 sec. That would have won both the B and A Division race. In fact, the top 4 C Division finishers (Yvonne, Chua Khai Leng, Sarah Chu, Mun Wei Lin) would have WON the A division race and secured at least 3rd place in the B Div.
It is also worth noting that Yvonne and Khai Leng were in Secondary 1 at this time.
2006 Chew Hanyu (St Nicholas Girls’) won it in 14 mins 38.18 secs. That would have placed her 3rd in B Div and 2nd in A Div.
1998 Dawn Chia (MGS) 15:22.26s, would have been 3rd in B Div and 1st in A Div.
1992 Haryati Osman (Siglap) 15:53.0s, would have been 3rd in both A and B Div.
Boys:
1995 Lim Ming Sheng’s (Chinese High) winning time was 15 mins 47 secs. It was half a minute faster than the B Division winning time of 16:17. The A Division 3rd place time was 15:36.
2005 Lee Ming Hui’s (Victoria) winning time was 15:39. That would have won the B Division race (15:41) and 6th in the A Division.
