CCAB, Thursday, March 29, 2010 - Cedar Girls' Secondary booked their spot in the semi-finals of the C Division Girls Volleyball Championship after holding off Chung Cheng High (Yishun) 2-0 (25-17, 28-26) in a Group Y quarter-final match.

In a later match, Anderson Secondary defeated Bukit Panjang Government High 2-1 (25-14, 16-25, 25-14) to keep their hopes of qualifying alive.

It was an especially tight second set for Cedar as they were tied at several points late in the game. At the 21-21 mark, Quak Guting (Cedar #6) sent a free ball into an empty spot in Chung Cheng's court to go one up.

Jasmine Tan (Cedar #11) then spiked past Chung Cheng's block to bring the team to 23-21. However, a subsequent spike by Jasmine (Cedar #11) that went high and wide allowed Chung Cheng to draw close.

Chung Cheng leveled at 23-23, and subsequently saw the game go into a deuce. Cedar gained an advantage when Chung Cheng were unable to return the ball, but Claire Teo (Cedar #9) served the ball out to allow Chung Cheng to level once again.

Both teams subsequently saw the match levelled again at the 26-26 mark, and Guting (Cedar #6) brought the team to match point with a lightly tapped spike. Jasmine (Cedar #11) sealed the game for the team when she saw her serve deflected out of bounds by Chung Cheng.

Cedar, who have two wins from two games played, are through to the semi-finals. Chung Cheng and Anderson each have one win and one loss from two games played. Chung Cheng will play Bukit Panjang on Tuesday, March 30th at 1.10pm while Anderson will fight it out with Cedar at 12pm.

It will be a make-or-break set of matches for the trio. Bukit Panjang need to win their match convincingly in order for a chance to qualify. Anderson will need to go all out to beat Cedar should Chung Cheng win their match against Bukit Panjang. Should Chung Cheng beat Bukit Panjang, and Anderson lose to Cedar, Chung Chung will automatically qualify for the semi-finals alongside Cedar.
