Singapore Basketball Centre, Saturday, March 27, 2010 – The national basketball men’s Under-18 team may have lost the friendly match, but there were a few bright sparks among the players to suggest a brighter future for Singapore.
Asian Youth Games representatives Russel Low and Larry Liew led the national youth team with 28 points and 12 points respectively in the 66-83 loss to Tong Whye. Larry, currently studying in North Vista Secondary, was particularly outstanding in the third quarter with four consecutive 3-pointers for his team.
The result was in itself remarkable considering the experience of Tong Whye with national player Pathman helming the team.
The National youth U-18 team will go to Myanmar in June to compete in the South East Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) under-18 tournament. The selection for the team is still ongoing every Saturday at the Singapore Basketball Centre.
