Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 – Anglican High School crashed out of the B Division girls' Basketball Championship after they were beaten 43-51 by Woodgrove Secondary in a Group D match.

Anglican High came into the match with a perfect record in the national round after victories over Jurong and Mayflower while Woodgrove had a win and a loss, previously falling to Jurong by five points.

Woodgrove needed to beat last year's semi-finalist by at least four points to have any chance of going into the next round and it looked like that they were bowing out with sloppy passes and needless turnovers in the second quarter. However, led by Tok Hui Min in the next two quarters, Woodgrove turned the tables on an out-of-sorts Anglican High to qualify for the last eight.

Both sides had a slow start to the match as the scores were still in single digits after the first quarter. It took Tok Hui Min's layup at the end of the quarter to separate the teams at 8-6. Woodgrove looked rather sluggish in the second quarter as Anglican High managed to take the lead from them. It could have been much more, but Anglican High failed to capitalise on Woodgrove's errors.

Much of the same followed in the third quarter as Anglican High managed to establish a comfortable lead. However, Woodgrove soon got their game together and punished Anglican High for all the miss chances, taking the lead at in the final quarter at 32-30.

Although Anglican High level the match at the start of the fourth quarter with a layup, Tok Hui Min replied with a three-point play as Anglican High soon found themselves unravelled by Woodgrove. The North Zone champions went on a 10-0 run to establish a 42-32 lead with a little over five minutes left in the match.

One would think Woodgrove would easily hold on for the rest of the match, but they made things difficult for themselves with needless turnovers, allowing Anglican High to claw their way back to within four points at 42-46 with two minutes left to play.

A series of free throws from both sides then followed but Anglican High were unable to draw level as Tok Hui Min's layup made the scores 51-43 to seal the victory for her side.

Woodgrove will next play against Jurong West, Singapore Chinese Girls' School and Yishun Town in Group Y of the last eight while Jurong, Unity, Dunman and Assumption English School will feature in Group X.

The second round of the B Division Basketball Championship starts on Thursday, April 8, 2010. All matches will be played at Clementi Sports Hall.
