Jurong East Sports Hall, Wednesday, April 28, 2010 – Kranji Primary showed their basketball pedigree when they won both the junior and senior boys titles on the same day. The junior boys team beat Chua Chu Kang Primary 63-36 while their seniors repeated the winning feat with a 46-22 victory over Anderson Primary.
In a rematch of the West Zone junior boys finals, perennial rivals Chua Chu Kang Primary and Kranji Primary clashed again in a fast-paced match.
The tense first few minutes saw both teams committing uncharacteristic turnovers. With Choa Chu Kang star player (#7) heavily defended, Kranji sought to utilise their height advantage over their rival. Kranji Pri captain (#5) broke the deadlock with a 3-point play but was answered quickly by a Choa Chu Kang fast break basket.
Not to be deterred, the Kranji centers (#4 and #7) took over, pulling down numerous offensive rebounds and scoring 14 points between them. Kranji led 17-8 by the end of the first quarter.
In the subsequent quarters, Chua Chu Kang rallied furiously to cut the deficit, scoring time and again with good long range shooting and well executed fast breaks. However, the Kranji players managed to answer with timely baskets and hold the Chua Chu Kang challenge at bay.
Kranji Primary emerged victorious with a final score of 63-36, led by Jansen (Kranji #7) with 25 points. Incidentally, Jansen also garnered the Most Valuable Player award. The Choa Chu Kang #7 contributed 8 points.
In the Senior Boys Final, it was a clash between the North Zone Champions Anderson Primary and West Zone Champions Kranji Primary. Anderson star center Lim Zhicong (#15), who had been leading his team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, was the player to watch in the final.
Perhaps due to tactical reasons, the Anderson Primary coach chose to field him only in the second quarter. Kranji quickly took advantage of this with a suffocating team defence from the start and jumped to an 18-2 first quarter lead.
The entrance of Zhicong in the second quarter immediately put heavy pressure on the Kranji team, as they found it difficult to enter the Anderson interior defence. However, Kranji managed to hold on for a 26-6 lead at half-time.
With a full court pressure in the second half, Anderson went all out to claw back the points. Embarking on a 16-5 run, Zhicong was virtually unstoppable, scoring 14 points with powerful drives, free throws and offensive put backs. A 20-point lead was cut to a 9-point advantage with eight minutes to go!
Kranji, who had been trying to pass the ball around to retain possession, quickly changed tactics. The players began to exploit gaps behind Anderson’s defence with long passes and fast break baskets. The fast tiring Anderson players could not prevent a Kranji 15-0 run to the end the game.
Kranji sealed the championship game with a 46-22 win. Most Valuable Player Zou Lida (Kranji #4) led his team with 30 points while Anderson’s Lim Zhicong (#15) led his team with 16 points.
In the girls’ finals, Telok Kurau Primary emerged champions in both divisions, beating Kheng Cheng School and Changkat Primary respectively.

Yay! Kranji’s BB has always been the best!!! Jiayou Kranjians!!!
Congratulation, Kranji Primary! Well done! We are so proud of you!
captivating title but reporting is skewed towards the boys games only. What happened to the girls games? Surely they deserved to have a bit more written than 2 miserable sentences?
Stories are contributed by readers and they write in the limited time they have.
I’m sure the girls’ games are worthy of their own write ups but we cannot fault the volunteer because he has a day job.
If you wish to expand on the girls’ games, please feel free to share with others here on Red Sports:

You send it, we post it. 🙂
Yes, must appreciate the effort, especially if the game is played one after another, at such close timing. Junior Girls, followed by Junior Boys in the morning, and Senior Girls followed by Senior Boys in the afternoon.
Thank you, for spending time to give us such vivid account of the game. I feel as though I am there watching the game!! Hope your boss don’t fault you for taking time (in between the games) to do this volunteer work 🙂
Cheers!!
TKPS is the best…..GOOO TELOK KURAU!!!!(shout)
