The Facebook group is nearing 14,000 members at the time of this post.
If you have been following the situation on Facebook, you will know that almost 14,000 people have joined the group “Mass Boycott Starhub/Singtel Overpriced World Cup Package”.
How truly mad are people? Are they mad enough to not sign up? Or will they eventually quietly succumb, as SingTel and StarHub are hoping?
The Facebook group was started by a Mr John Chua only last Saturday, May 6th, in reaction to the prices for the World Cup packages offered by SingTel and StarHub.
One of the group members, Mr Isaac Ho, told Red Sports: “My main issue is with SingTel coming into the picture and providing cable television program. There should be competition with StarHub to bring consumers a more competitive price.
“However, in their ambition to prove themselves, SingTel overbid on the English Premier League (EPL) and hence caused FIFA to offer the World Cup broadcast at a very high price, translating into higher charges for consumers.
“Honestly, it’s no longer about the money but the principle behind it. Who are we? Blind? We are not to be led by our noses,” he added.
Ho also said that he did not know anyone who has signed up yet.
As things stand, most readers here on Red Sports have also indicated they do not have the World Cup package.
Will they continue to hold out? Or will the numbers in the poll (below) start to change as we get closer to the opening game on June 11th?
Time will tell.
