South Africa, Friday, June 25, 2010 — An intriguing match-up between the current number one footballing side in the world and the current number three became a forgettable 0-0 stalemate for local fans.
Despite having the lion’s share of possession at 61%, already-qualified Brazil strolled through the match without making any threatening shots on goal. The closest they came was a Nilmar shot that came off the bar on 34 minutes.
Portugal appeared a pale shadow of their impressive self against North Korea as they failed to threaten Julio Cesar much in the Brazil goal. Star man Cristiano Ronaldo had a disappointing outing as he was forced into making ambitious long-range shots that went well wide of the mark.
The result meant the two footballing giants progressed to the second round from Group G at the expense of Ivory Coast who beat North Korea 3-0 but finished third.
