At this rate, the South African version will not match the exciting 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea which saw a total of 161 goals and an average of 2.5 goals per game.

This World Cup is on track to be the lowest-scoring World Cup since FIFA made it a 32-nation tournament in 1998.
