Hanoi, Vietnam, Saturday, July 2, 2010 — T Piriyah broke the national record for the women’s 400m hurdles when she clocked 1 minute 1.69 seconds at the 14th Asian Junior Athletics Championships.
Piriyah finished third in the race.
Piriyah set the previous national record time of 1:02.74 in the Pahang Open in May 2010, breaking the 1:02.80 mark that had belonged to Norshidah Mohd Ali since 1984.
In the men’s 800m heats, Singapore’s Zachary Devaraj finished in 2:00.47 and missed making the final by just two tenths of a second. The eighth and last qualifier from Thailand clocked 2:00.22.
Singapore’s Ranjitha Raja made it to the final of the women’s 800m and finished fifth in 02:24.4.
In the men’s 100m semi-finals, Shahrir Anuar clocked a 11.51 seconds while Donovan Chan ran a 11.55. Both did not qualify for the final.

Man, I expected Shahrir to go much faster. His PB is 10.90s and if I’m not wrong, he did 10.95s just in May, during the Nationals. Zachary, I guess he was probably saving his energy for the finals. He was unlucky but good job nonetheless! I tip him to go under 1min 50sec for 800m in the years to come. He will pose a huge challenge to Jeevaneesh next year. Mouth watering clash imminent. Cross country, 800m and 1500m.
