Kuala Lumpur, Sunday, July 18, 2010 — Singapore went down 0-8 to neighbours Malaysia in the final of the ASEAN School Games hockey competition.

Malaysia led 6-0 at half-time.

Singapore had finished the round-robin preliminary round with a 3-1 win-loss record after they chalked up victories against Brunei (8-0), Indonesia (4-1) and Thailand (4-2).

Their one loss in the group stages came against Malaysia also in a game where they lost 0-7.

Our boys finished second in the group and qualified for the final.

Singapore’s Karleef Sasi Abdullah finished third on the top scorers’ standings with six goals.

According to Malaysian media, the Malaysian squad comprised players from Bukit Jalil and Bandar Penawar, their two national sports schools, while the cream of their under-18 squad are currently training in Europe for the 2013 Junior World Cup.
