Greenview went on the offensive and came close to equalising two minutes later. Greenview midfielder Farid found himself with the ball in a crowded Sports School penalty box but his shot from just five yards out miraculously found the crossbar.
There was an ugly end to the game as a scuffle broke out in the final moments but thankfully, it did not last long and was settled quickly.
When asked about the result, Sports School coach Amin Nasir said: “It was a close game. Credit to Greenview for putting up a good fight. But I think it’s a fair result.”
On playing St Patrick’s School in the final, he added: “St Patrick’s are a big, physical side. We have played them before. But we will play our game and hope for the best.”
“I thought I was offside when the ball came off the post. But I saw the linesman with his flag down and just took a shot. Ole!” said Nurullah as he recalled scoring the goal.
Greenview coach Noor Halis said: “I told them to focus, but they were tired and lost concentration. Overall I am very happy with the team. Now we will look to our next game and aim for 3rd place.”
Greenview Principal Mr Koh came down to support the boys and told us he could not be more proud of them despite the loss.
Singapore Sports School will face St. Patrick’s School in the final, while Greenview take on Seng Kang Secondary to determine the 3rd and 4th placing on Friday, July 23rd.
