Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, July 19, 2010 — Dunman Secondary emerged top dog of Group Y after brushing Anglican High School aside in a National Girls’ C Division Basketball Championship second round match.
Both sides had already secured spots in the semi-finals with comfortable victories against North Vista Secondary and Raffles Girls’ School and were playing for top stop of Group Y. However, there was no doubt about the result from the tip-off as Dunman Secondary dominated the match. They limited Anglican High to a mere three points in the first quarter while scoring 12 points of their own.
Anglican High were never really quite settled in the match and it showed as they soon found themselves facing a 20-point deficit midway through the second quarter. By the end of the half, they were down 27-8, with the match over as a contest.
Much of the same then followed in the second half as Dunman Secondary extended their lead. Dunman’s #10 scored a game-high 15 points, including six points in the second and third quarter, to lead her side to wrap up the comfortable victory.
In the other group game, Raffles Girls’ School went down 40-44 to North Vista Secondary in an inconsequential match.
In Group X, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School crashed out of the tournament after failing to win all their matches of the second round. After losing their opening match of the second round to Nanyang Girls’ High School, they suffered a heartbreaking defeat, losing by a single point to Christ Church Secondary, 27-28. Both sides were tied with a couple of seconds remaining but a careless foul allowed Christ Church Secondary to steal the game with a free throw.
Singapore Chinese Girls’ School then fell to Unity 45-41 in the crucial final match.
Nanyang Girls’ High School finished as winners of the group, recording victories in all their second round matches. Unity Secondary settled for second spot in the group with a 2-1 win-loss record.
The semi-finals will pit Nanyang Girls’ High against Anglican High while Unity will be up against Dunman , who are unbeaten in the tournament. The matches will be played at Clementi Sports Hall on Friday, July 21st, 2010.
