Jalan Besar Stadium, Friday, July 23, 2010 — After two warm-up games against S.League sides Gombak United and Home United, English Championship side Burnley will now take on the Singapore Selection side in their last match of their South East Asia Tour.
In the pre-match press conference, Singapore Selection coach Raddy Avramovic has warned Burnley FC coach Brian Laws that those two matches were just warm-up games, and that the real test awaits Burnley on Saturday.
Burnley had beaten Gombak and Home by identical 5-0 score lines this week.
The 22-man strong Singapore Selection squad will have a mix of young and experienced players.
“There’s nothing much I can do,” said Raddy how he has planned to make his mixed team work together. “What I will do is to organize the team and give the young players a chance to play. We can then see what they have to offer.”
This is a period where i will looking to putting in young players,” elaborated Raddy.”Players like Yasir Hanapi, Naufal Omar and Shahdan Sulaiman. For the SEA Games in 2011, we’ll be looking to win a gold, as such, the under-23 team was the basis for selection in this match.”
“It is an excellent opportunity to play against an ex-EPL team and I expect spectators to turn up to support both teams. I think I’ll be an open game,” he concluded.
Singapore’s youngest ever international, Hariss Harun, has been announced as the captain for tomorrow’s game. He said that he is looking forward to this match as it will be a different exposure for him and the other Singaporean footballers.
Meanwhile Brian Laws looked satisfied at the results from their tour of Singapore so far. In response to why Singapore was selected as their pre-season training destination, he said that it was partly due to the climate as the humidity will help the players achieve higher fitness levels for their upcoming season.
“The pitch will not be a problem. It is a 3G pitch, unlike previous artificial pitches and we have one in our facility at Burnley as well,” added Laws as he commented on the playing surface for Saturday’s clash at Jalan Besar Stadium.
At the end of the press conference, he also gave his assessment on the S.League’s standard saying: “The game against Home United was a tough game. They were able to string a few good passing movements together.”
Meanwhile ahead of the big clash, the Singapore Youth Olympics Games (YOG) squad will be taking on the National Football Academy (NFA) Under-18 team in preparations for the upcoming YOG in August.

It’s the Asian Games in November, not the SEA Games
He was actually referring to next year’s SEA Games. Thanks for pointing out that the quote wasn’t clear.
