Singapore, Thursday, August 5, 2010 — As of today, August 5, the Youth Olympic Lane will be in effect till the end of the Youth Olympic Games on August 26.
The Land Transport Authority is urging motorists travelling on certain roads to give way to vehicles carrying athletes and officials involved in the YOG. The Youth Olympic Lanes have been designated along 7 expressways and 15 arterial roads that have been identified as key routes between YOG venues. On these roads and expressways. The LTA has designated the second left-most lane as Youth Olympic Lanes and these lanes have the Olympic rings painted on them, together with the words “GIVE WAY”. Motorists traveling in this lane should give way if the Youth Olympic vehicles are behind them.
While travelling on the Youth Olympic Lane, motorists need only give way to the YOG vehicles which spot three key attributes – the Singapore 2010 look, special YOG license plates and blinker lights turned on.
Motorists are reminded that it would be an offence if they do not give way to approaching YOG vehicles along the Youth Olympic Lanes from this period.
The Youth Olympic Lane was introduced to facilitate timely arrival of athletes and official at competition venues during the period of the games. Unlike other Olympic Games host cities that have introduced Olympic Lane for the exclusive use of Game vehicles, Singapore’s Youth Olympic Lane is based on a give-way concept.
For more information, motorists can refer to www.lta.gov.sg or grab a brochure which is available at petrol stations island-wide.
In addition, there will be lane closures during certain periods of the YOG, as well as during the YOG torch relay. Click here for more information.
