International Convention Centre, Monday, August 16, 2010 — Singapore’s male taekwondo representative Daryl Tan did the nation proud despite losing his semi-final to Iran’s Rezaei Kaveh 0-6, 0-9 and 0-12 in the Men’s Under 55kg category.
The Iranian is the world junior champion in the category.
With no bronze medal playoffs scheduled, it meant the 17-year-old has clinched Singapore’s first ever Youth Olympic medal.
Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, was present to witness his match and was proud of Daryl’s achievements.
“He’s a wonderful athlete. He put up an impressive fight, showing never-give-up spirit and self-belief. I’m happy about it and I hope to see more of such young athletes coming up,” he said.
