Singapore Sports School, Thursday, August 19, 2010 — Swimmer Amanda Lim qualified for her first individual final in the Youth Olympic Games when she finished third in her race, and sixth overall in the semi-finals of the 50 metres Freestyle, her pet event.

She clocked a time of 26.14 seconds which is a season’s best, as well as the fastest time by a Singaporean this year. Amanda is the national record holder in this event with a time of 25.38.

The fastest qualifier was Anna Santamans. The French swimmer clocked a 25.48.

Clement Lim failed in his bid to break the men’s 100m Freestyle national record when he timed 51.75 seconds in the semi-finals. That was only good enough for equal-13th place overall. The national record is 50.99 held by Danny Yeo.

Though he came up short, Clement has had a stellar meet, setting a personal best on four occasions and clocking the quickest ever 100m Freestyle relay leg in Singapore’s history.

Pang Sheng Jun completed his individual campaign on a good note as well when he lowered his 50m Breaststroke personal best for the second time in a day. His semi-final swim of 30.11 was 0.26 seconds faster than his heat. He placed 10th overall.

The quartet of Amanda, Adeline Winata, Chriselle Koh and Cheryl Lim finished eighth in the women’s 4x100m Freestyle relay final. They just failed to go below four minutes, clocking 4:00.43.
